John has been involved in the Aldridge Cricket Academy since its inception. He was asked to be part of the programme due to his extensive knowledge of school cricket and in particular overseas tours. He regularly attends coaching sessions to assist with the coaching of the players who enjoy learning from his wealth of experience and enthusiasm about the game.
After playing cricket for Cambridge University (1970-72) and Sussex CCC (1969-80), John became a geography teacher and spent most of his teaching career at Brighton College until he retired in 2012. During this time, he was in charge of the cricket at the College for a number of years and undertook 12 international tours. These tours were often the first trip abroad for many future England players including Clare Connor, Matt Prior and Sarah Taylor. John is passionate about cricketers experiencing other cultures in order to learn more about the game, the country and most importantly themselves.
